Transposition
2016 - 2017Western culture is drawn to categorize in binaries: there is the landscape and there is the city; there is the digital and there is the physical; there is chaos and there is harmony. In the increasingly technological world fueled and influenced by visual and digital media, the contrast between those areas that exist in our urban centers and the surrounding landscape increases while the meeting point of virtual environments with the physical becomes over sharpened but somehow still blurry and unclear. None of these elements exist in an isolated fashion. Transposition mediates on this complex system of constant material transformation: the entanglement of these supposed categories and how they influence, are codependent, and are coproduced by the one another. Through exploring these perceived categories not as distinctly separate, but rather as a spectrum, Transposition reveals the influences between the material languages and worlds of “Nature”, urbanity, and technology.
